  • Codenimbuz Buy Your Tickets For — Jaymz Bee's Caravan of Music

In 1997, Bee took his love of parties and turned it into a bestseller: Cocktail Parties For Dummies (IDG Books Worldwide). He crisscrossed North America promoting the book, hosting cocktail competitions from coast to coast for Smirnoff in the aptly named “Ultimate Martini Challenge,” all while proudly brandishing a battery-operated blender courtesy of Black & Decker. On top of that, he was pushing his album Cocktail: Shakin’ & Stirred (BMG), proving that Bee could mix drinks, music, and mischief in equal measure.

The constant touring, press junkets, and media appearances eventually led to a wild, wonderful offer: his own Caribbean cruise. The Jaymz Bee Floating Cocktail Party sailed with 850 passengers paying $1,200 each for eight days of island hopping — Tortola, St. Kitts, St. Maarten — and set Bee on a new course: curating travel adventures infused with music, cocktails, and good cheer.

Beyond all that, Bee has written screenplays, short films, (Wild Music, Beat Speak, Lucky Strikes and Artists and Aliens a feature musical (MagicLand, with Robert Priest) and countless songs over the past forty years. Most of his lyrics have been recorded by his own bands, though occasionally he’s written for others.

In 2017, he released a collection of poetry and lyrics called Cosmic Fishing (Insomniac Press, now out of print). It’s 144 pages of his signature wit, whimsy, and insight, illustrated by friends and collaborators, with a few co-written songs sprinkled throughout. A snapshot of Bee’s mind at work — funny, heartfelt, and just a little unpredictable.

In 2021, Bee added another feather to his creative cap with a colouring book, Kolour Me Krazy, illustrated by Charles Hackbarth, story-edited by the inimitable Fay Olson, and brought to life in print by John Sutton. Priced at ten bucks and available worldwide on Amazon, it was a little bright spot in a gloomy COVID year.

The project began when Charles asked Jaymz to write something he could illustrate, and Bee, never one to miss an opportunity for fun, decided to spin short stories about his encounters with celebrities — Julie Andrews, Bea Arthur, Mick Jagger, Michael Jordan, Alice Cooper, Charlie Watts, Ennio Morricone, and more. The result was equal parts whimsical and mischievous, the kind of tales that make you chuckle and shake your head at the sheer audacity of it all. Hundreds sold online, even more at concerts and special events, and the book is still out there — ready to bring a little colour, and a little chaos, into your life.
