In 2003, Bee dreamed up, produced, and hosted The Jazz Safari — a one-of-a-kind tour for donors to JAZZ.FM91, Toronto’s beloved not-for-profit jazz station. What began as city tours (of Toronto jazz venues) soon blossomed into far-flung adventures to enjoy music in various countries and cities around the world: Italy, England, Portugal, Iceland, Panama, Cuba, and across the States — Newport, New York, New Orleans, Chicago, San Francisco, Monterey — almost always timed to coincide with a jazz festival.
Eventually, Bee took it a step further, founding his own company, Beeline Music Adventure Tours. He kept the magic alive with journeys to Cuba and New Orleans, and even added St. John’s, Newfoundland, to the map. Beeline trips were smaller, more intimate affairs — 12 to 24 people per tour — while the Jazz Safaris could range from 30 to 120 eager travellers, all hungry for music, adventure, and a little Bee-style mischief along the way. It wasn’t just a vacation; it was a moving, breathing celebration of jazz, friendship, and discovery.
